Aviation Academy Graduates Newest Class of Airport Ambassadors

April 20, 2022 - The Aviation Department graduated its fifth class of Airport ambassadors, March 31 as the eight-week program ended with a celebratory dinner.

After last year’s sessions were conducted virtually, this year’s class was able to meet at the Aviation Department’s CLT Center, except for the opening class.

Over 20 community members – some from as far away as Anson County and Mooresville – applied and were selected by a panel of Aviation Department employees. The class gained behind-the-scenes access to current operations and future planning efforts designed specifically to help citizens understand how the Airport affects the local economy.

The Aviation Academy covered nearly every area of the Airport, including business, revenue, safety, security, CLT as a hub and landlord, its complex systems, its role as an employment center, economic development and capital campaign projects. The group also met Hossa, the 190-pound English Mastiff of the CLT Canine Crew.

Centralina Regional Council provides administrative support for the Aviation Academy, including managing registrations and sponsorships. In five years, over 100 residents have graduated from the Academy and now serve as unofficial ambassadors for CLT.
