Destination CLT Updates

Destination CLT, a $3.1 billion capital investment program to meet passenger growth through 2035, is gearing up for a big year.

Terminal Lobby Expansion

Work on the Terminal Lobby Expansion (TLE) canopy is progressing. So far, 28 of 63 trusses have been installed, creating a dramatic and eye-catching entryway for passengers and visitors. This month, construction began on the west overhead pedestrian bridge that will connect the Hourly Parking Deck to the terminal. Work on the east overhead pedestrian bridge will begin next year.

Looking ahead: New ticket counters on the TLE’s west side are scheduled to open this spring, while three new luggage carousels will be available to passengers in Baggage Claim by year’s end. The TLE’s east side remains on schedule to open in the fall. It will include the unveiling of the Queen Charlotte statue.

The $608 million signature lobby expansion project is transforming the Airport’s entrance with 366,000 square feet of new and renovated space, along with the architecturally stunning canopy.

 Concourse A Expansion Phase II

Column and utility installation continues for Concourse A Expansion Phase II. The placement of structural steel will wrap up by the end of summer. The $231 million expansion will add 191,848 square feet and an additional 10 gates to Concourse A upon its fall 2024 completion.

Fourth Parallel Runway

CLT plans to break ground in late spring on the fourth parallel runway, which will be built between the current 18R/36L and 18C/36C runways and include two end-around taxiways. The $1 billion airfield project will be 10,000 feet long. Construction will conclude in mid-summer 2027 with a late fall commissioning that year.
