CLT Expects One of its Busiest Summers Ever

Don’t Fly by the Seat of Your Pants

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is expecting one of its biggest summer travel seasons in history. Passenger numbers are projected to exceed 2019 (pre-pandemic) by approximately 10%.

CLT recently saw large crowds over Memorial Day weekend with around 435,000 passengers traveling to, from and through CLT, up from 400,000 last year.

American Airlines, which operates nearly 90% of flights at Charlotte Douglas, is increasing its current daily departures schedule from 563 to 600 and offering nine daily flights to Europe from CLT this summer.

The top five domestic destinations currently trending from CLT are Orlando, New York, Chicago, Boston and Dallas/Fort Worth. Among international destinations: London, England; Cancun, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Munich, Germany, top the list.

If planning an upcoming trip, Don’t Fly by the Seat of Your Pants.

  • Plan ahead.
  • Be inside the Airport at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.
  • Check security wait times on CLT’s website or app.
  • Book your parking when you book your flight. Visit parkCLT.com or the Airport App. Passengers can now book online the new Express Deck Self-Park.
  • Sign up for TSA PreCheck® to help expedite your checkpoint screening time. Remember Checkpoint B is now closed through the end of the year for expansion.
  • Follow signage inside the terminal.

Keep in mind the Airport’s peak days are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. The busiest times are between 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

CLT will have additional staff in the lobby, dressed in bright yellow vests, to guide and assist passengers.
