Construction Continues Uninterrupted

Destination CLT is the Airport’s $2.5-$3.1 billion capital investment campaign that includes concourse renovations and expansion of CLT’s roadways, curb front, airfield and terminal. Here are the latest updates on Destination CLT projects.

Terminal Lobby Expansion

Steel erection for the Terminal Lobby Expansion (TLE) began this month. Construction continues on the foundations, utilities and stair towers. Work on the TLE’s communication and electrical rooms near the Hourly Deck is ongoing.

The $600 million lobby expansion will transform the Airport’s entrance with 366,000 square feet of new and renovated space. It is the largest construction project in the Airport’s history. Completion is on schedule for 2025.

Concourse E Phase 9

Framing work for Concourse E Phase 9 is underway, while plumbing and electrical installation is occurring underground.

This expansion will create 34,000 square feet of hold room, concessions space and support space on the north end of Concourse E. Currently, passengers use hold room space of other Concourse E gates and walk under temporary canopies to access aircraft hardstand parking. An additional 6,000 square feet of open ramp space will be enclosed along the east wing at Gate E16 to accommodate passengers of hardstand aircraft.

The project also will shield passengers from the elements, decongest hold rooms and heighten security and safety with boarding bridge-equipped gates. This expansion also will enable larger regional aircraft to use the concourse due to the rising elevation on the north end and up-gauging of regional aircraft.

The expansion is scheduled to wrap up at the end of this year. Follow updates on our Destination CLT page.
