March 13, 2018- Airports Council International (ACI) released its 2018 preliminary rankings, which revealed CLT as the sixth busiest airport nationwide and seventh worldwide in aircraft movements. Last year, Charlotte Douglas International Airport handled 550,013 landings and departures.
In passenger traffic CLT ranks 11th nationwide and 37th worldwide. The Airport served 46.4 million travelers in 2018, setting an all-time high passenger record.
Cargo numbers show the Airport places 31st nationwide and 111th worldwide. Activity rose 2 percent to 178,805 tons of goods transported through CLT, illustrating the continued popularity of e-commerce.
ACI will release its final rankings, based off more than 1,000 airports worldwide, this fall. CLT remains one of the fastest growing airports in the country. Destination CLT, a capital investment program well underway, includes expansion of CLT's roadways, curb front, airfield and terminal to meet passenger demand through 2035.
