The twelfth annual Runway 5K drew more than 1,100 participants to CLT's airfield on October 27.
The overall winner was Steve Rivard of Rock Hill, S.C., who crossed the finish line in 16 minutes and 13 seconds. Mary Cate Kiser of Charlotte was the top female runner with the time 20 minutes and 19 seconds.
In addition to celebrating the twelfth anniversary, this year's run was special because it was a key event for CLT 250, a year-long celebration of Charlotte's 250th birthday.
It is also the first year proceeds will help fund an Airport Opportunity Scholarship with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) created to promote careers in aviation, as well as economic opportunities in Charlotte.
The Airport scholarship will benefit students who are graduates of high schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School (CMS) district and are Title 1 eligible. Each recipient will attend CPCC's Summer Bridge academic enrichment program and enroll in a two-year, career focused degree program specific to the Aviation Department.
