January 11, 2019 – Concourse C renovations begin Monday, January 14 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport as part of Destination CLT, the Airport's $2.5 billion capital investment program.
Opened in 1982 as the East Concourse, renovations will consist of new ceiling tiles, fresh coats of paint, carpet in the seating areas, wall panels, upgraded seating with integrated power, USB ports and wireless charging hotspots.
Terrazzo flooring also will be placed in the center walkway of the concourse to better accommodate rolling luggage. Restrooms, HVAC, electrical, fire alarm and sprinkler systems will be upgraded as well. The project's completion is scheduled for spring 2020.
During renovations, Airport operations will not be interrupted. Work will begin at the far end of Concourse C, at Gates 14-19 and will continue in stages towards the Atrium. The concourse will remain open to passengers. Some sections of the concourse, however, will be gated during the day to preserve the integrity of the newly poured terrazzo. Passengers will see open ceilings and bare concrete flooring. The majority of work will occur at night from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize disruptions.
Currently, renovations underway on Concourse B will wrap up this spring. Concourse A renovations, which began in September, will finish in early 2020.
CLT's terminal building was opened in 1982. The $70 million concourse renovation project will bring new life to the 36-year-old building and serve as the most extensive renovations in the terminal's history.
