All airlines serving Charlotte Douglas International Airport either strongly encourage or are mandating passengers wear face coverings in airport, at ticket counters, in boarding areas and onboard their aircraft. Charlotte Douglas strongly recommends anyone coming to the Airport – either to fly or meet someone – wear a face covering at all time while at the Airport.
As always, people who must travel at this time and those planning to travel in the future, should defer to their air carrier for specific guidance and requirements for travel now and in the future.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends face coverings be coupled with social distancing of at least six feet. While that may be hard to do onboard an aircraft, airlines are doing more and more to ensure the safety and comfort of those who must travel right now and for future travel.
Airlines for America, an advocacy organization, said airlines are working collaboratively with the federal government, the CDC, Health and Human Services, Department of Transportation and Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies to prioritize the health, safety and wellbeing of travelers.
Updates are available on the Airlines for America website as well as on the websites of various air carriers. Refer to your airline for the most up-to-date information and any other requirements related to COVID-19 before going to an airport and before flying.
All customers are required to wear protective face coverings. All Air Canada employees also will be required to wear face coverings and have the option of other personal protective equipment such as gloves
Contour requires that all passengers have a removable face covering or non-medical mask to cover their mouth and nose for use through its airports and in-flight. Passengers must always wear their face mask when they are six feet or less away from another person, other than a member of their household, or when directed to do so by a Contour employee. Contour has a limited number of masks available for passengers not currently in possession of their own.
Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines employees and partners are required as of April 30 to wear face coverings. That recommendation strongly encouraging face coverings for passengers went into effect May 4. Delta will make them available at ticket counters, at gates and on board should a passenger not have their own.
The airline as of May 8 requires passengers to wear masks over their nose and mouth, at ticket counters, gate areas and onboard aircraft.
As of May 4, all JetBlue customers are required to wear a face covering during travel. This includes ticketing, boarding areas and while on the plane and while disembarking.
Lufthansa asks its customers to bring their own face coverings when flying. Its cabin crew with direct customer contact also will also wear protective masks. The mandatory policy is effective May 4 though at least Aug. 31. We therefore kindly ask you to use a face mask on all your travels with Lufthansa as of Monday, May 4, during your stay at the airport as well as onboard. We kindly ask you to bring your own face mask and, for the sake of sustainability, we recommend a reusable cloth mask. Of course, you may use any type of face covering, such as simple disposable masks or even scarves.
For now, wearing a face mask remains mandatory until August 31, 2020
Starting May 11 all Southwest passengers will be required to wear masks. The airline encourages passengers to bring their own but will provide a face covering for those who do not have one.
Effective May 11 all passengers will be required to wear face coverings. Employees in direct contact with customers will also wear masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Sun Country is requiring all our customer-facing employees to wear masks and expects its passengers to wear face coverings as well.
Face masks for passengers are required as of May 4. United will make them available for passengers who do not have their own. United also requires all flight attendants to wear a face covering or mask.
