CLT First in N.C. to Earn Accreditation for Cleaning & Disease Prevention
CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte Douglas International Airport has earned Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR™ Facility Accreditation, recognizing that CLT has implemented the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention in its facilities.
To achieve the GBAC STAR accreditation, Charlotte Douglas was required to demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 core elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.
CLT is the first airport in the state of North Carolina to achieve the accreditation. Nationwide just 13 airports have received accreditation, although numerous others are in the process.
“We are working hard to create a safe and healthy environment for our travelers and our employees,” said CLT’s Acting Aviation Director Haley Gentry. “We hope this accreditation will provide our customers with even more confidence in our commitment to do our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19.”
In the CLT terminal, housekeeping crews work around the clock to provide daily and deep cleanings with extra attention to high-touch points and an electrostatically charged mist for often touched and hard-to reach places. Protective shields are installed, and touchless processes are in place where possible. A robust informational campaign constantly reminds passengers to wear a face covering, wash their hands and social distance from people outside their immediate family.
