Time to Eat! New Concessions, More Choices

When it’s time to eat, CLT has a variety of food options and more choices coming soon.

Wow Bao is now open on Concourse C. It offers pan-seared potstickers, steamed dumplings, rice and noodle bowls, soups, salads, specialty drinks and bao, a Chinese steamed bread roll filled with meat or vegetables.

This summer, PDQ will debut on Concourse E. Menu options include chicken sandwiches, salads, chicken tenders and nuggets with a variety of specialty sauces and hand spun shakes.

Did someone say barbecue? Midwood Smokehouse will serve passengers this fall mouth-watering chicken, pork, turkey, brisket and ribs on Concourse B.

Just in time for the year-end holidays, Panera Bread is opening its second CLT location on Concourse E.

Charlotte’s own Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (OMB) also is planning to introduce a second CLT location. It will begin welcoming customers in early 2024 on Concourse D, replacing Carolina Beer. For now, you can grab an OMB beer at Captain Jack’s Tavern, Whisky River, Carolina Beer and Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar.

Airport Moves Forward with New Overlook Plans

The Aviation Department released renderings in April of CLT’s new Airport Overlook scheduled to open next summer. Amenities will include picnic tables and benches, pet relief areas, restrooms and an expanded food truck staging area.

The popular attraction for aviation enthusiasts will remain on Airport property just off Marshall Drive and have spectacular views of the airfield that plane spotters have come to love.

This location will be the fifth dedicated Overlook at CLT since 1937. The most recent site served the community since 1989 and closed Oct. 3, 2022, for construction of the North End-Around Taxiway and future fourth parallel runway.

A temporary area was installed at the corner of Old Dowd Road and Airport Overlook Drive and will remain in place until the new Overlook opens.

Golf Tournament Raises More Than $115,000

The fourth CLT Charity Golf Tournament, hosted by Airport Community Partnerships (ACP), raised $115,384 for Freedom School Partners. The organization provides under-resourced students with three life-changing tools: literacy skills, character strengths and a community that believes in them.

It’s just one of the many ways – Connections Don’t Just Happen at the Terminal.

The April 3 sold-out golf tournament boasted 51 sponsors and 144 golfers, who teed off at the Ballantyne Country Club. Since its start in 2019, the event has raised more than $467,000 for nonprofit organizations that give back to the community.

ACP is comprised of companies that operate out of, are based in, or have business with CLT. The Airport and its business partners come together through the ACP to make a difference in the community.

Administered by the Green Building Initiative (GBI), Green Globes® is a nationally recognized green rating assessment and certification system.

The Central Energy Plant provides additional heating and cooling capacity to the Terminal Lobby Expansion. The increased capacity will maintain comfortable temperatures while reducing energy consumption. Check out more information about the Green Globes® certification.

Wings for All Helps Ease Stress of Flying

Wings for All provided a flying test run for 50 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their family members.

The event was designed to help alleviate some of the stress that families who have a loved-one with a disability experience when flying.

Participants gathered at CLT on April 29 and received a boarding pass, proceeded through TSA screening, waited in the gate area and experienced the boarding process and in-flight safety procedures just as they would for a real flight.

The program also gives Airport, airline, TSA professionals, and other personnel the opportunity to observe, interact, and deliver their services in a structured learning environment, improving their disability competency and processes for accommodating passengers who fly.
